Flu Vaccine

Flu season is going strong in Dallas/Ft. Worth and we wanted to share some important information to get you through this season, and help prepare our families for next season.

Influenza is one of the most common, and dangerous viruses that we face. It is very contagious and easy to spread if it is not treated appropriately. The two easiest ways to prevent getting the flu is hand hygiene, and getting the flu vaccination every year.

We agree with the CDC that everyone over the age of six months receive the flu vaccination. The vaccine is not a guarantee that a person will not get the flu, however, it will dramatically reduce the severity of their symptoms and their length of illness. There are some people who believe the flu vaccination will give them the flu. This is not factual. The flu vaccine cannot cause flu illness. However, sometimes the vaccine can cause some flu-like side effects that are mild and short-lasting...still a much better option that getting the full-borne flu.

Some symptoms of influenza are:

  • Fever

  • Cough

  • Sore Throat

  • Muscles or body aches

  • Runny or stuffy nose

  • Headaches

  • Fatigue

If you feel that your child may have the flu, we encourage you to contact our office so that we may diagnose and begin their treatment. In addition, if you believe your child may have flu symptoms, keep them away from other children, out of school, as well as away from higher risk adults such as individuals over the age 65.
